Overview
The KENWOOD Viking® VM5000 is the entry-level P25 mobile in the Viking family, built for agencies and fleets that want full P25 Phase 1 and 2 capability in a simple, compact dash-mount radio. It runs P25 trunking and conventional, Viking16 (SmartNet/SmartZone compatible) and analog, with the same AES, DES-OFB and ADP-compatible ARC4 encryption as the larger Viking mobiles. The KCH-19 control head mounts on the dash or remotely, and dual control heads are supported.

Which Viking mobile do I need?
The VM5000 is the simple, affordable dash-mount P25 mobile. The VM6000 adds the larger-display KCH-20 remote head and a handheld head option. The VM7000 monitors up to four bands at once with multiple decks, and the VM8000 is multi-band from one deck with DMR, NXDN and Viking Connect. We will help you match the radio to each vehicle.
Will it work on our county or state P25 system?
Yes. Kenwood lists the VM5000 as compatible with KENWOOD ATLAS, Motorola ASTRO 25, L3Harris VIDA, Airbus VESTA and other standards-based P25 Phase 1 and 2 systems. Tell us which system you are joining and we will confirm compatibility and program it.
Does it work with our Motorola encryption?
It supports AES and DES-OFB, and its ARC4 encryption is compatible with Motorola ADP, with over-the-air rekeying.
Can you install it?
Yes. Our upfitting shop installs the radio, control head, antenna, speaker and power wiring, and programs it to your system.
