Good to know
VP5000 or VP8000: which do I need?
The VP5000 is a smaller, single-band P25 radio, a great fit when your agency is on one band. The VP8000 is multi-band (VHF, UHF and 700/800 in one radio) with louder 3 W audio, Wi-Fi, a top display and more protocols, for users who work across systems and agencies.
Will it work on our county or state P25 system?
Yes. Kenwood lists the VP5000 as compatible with KENWOOD ATLAS, Motorola ASTRO 25, L3Harris VIDA, Airbus VESTA and other standards-based P25 Phase 1 and Phase 2 systems. Tell us which system you are on and we will confirm and program it.
Does it work with our Motorola encryption?
It supports AES-256 and DES-OFB, its ARC4 encryption is compatible with Motorola ADP, and it can be keyed with a Motorola KVL3000/KVL4000, the Viking VK5000 or over the air.
Keypad or no keypad?
Full keypad models make it easy to enter talkgroups, IDs and text. Standard models without a numeric keypad are simpler for users who only change channels with the knob.
Is it intrinsically safe?
Yes, for hazardous locations when used with the approved KNB-LS7 battery and approved KMC-54WDM or KMC-70M speaker microphones (CSA certified to TIA 4950).
