Overview
The KENWOOD Viking® VP8000 is a multi-band, multi-protocol P25 portable built for police, fire, EMS and federal users who need one radio that works everywhere. It covers VHF, UHF and 700/800 MHz and runs P25 Phase 1 and 2 trunking, P25 conventional, DMR, NXDN, Viking16 (SmartNet/SmartZone compatible) and analog, all mixed in the same zone if you need it. Glove-friendly controls, a large emergency button, loud 3-watt audio, a full-color top display and IP67/IP68 protection make it ready for the fireground and the street.

Good to know
Will it work on our county or state P25 system?
Yes, if the system is standards-based P25. The VP8000 supports P25 Phase 1 and Phase 2 trunking and conventional, and Viking16 works with SmartNet/SmartZone systems. Tell us which system you are joining and we will confirm compatibility and handle the programming.
Does it work with our Motorola encryption?
The VP8000 supports AES-256 and DES-OFB, and its ARC4 encryption is compatible with Motorola ADP. It can be keyed with a Motorola Key Variable Loader or over the air (OTAR).
Why is the VP8000 configured to order?
Bands, protocols, channel capacity, encryption, Viking Connect and many safety features are software options. That way each agency pays only for what it needs. We walk you through every option and quote the exact configuration.
What is Viking Connect?
Viking Connect, powered by ESChat, adds broadband push-to-talk over Wi-Fi, LTE or satellite. The radio stays on your LMR system and can switch to broadband when you are out of radio coverage, and talk to ESChat users on phones and dispatch consoles.
Is it intrinsically safe?
Yes, for hazardous locations when used with the approved KNB-LS7 battery and approved KMC-70 series speaker microphones (CSA certified to TIA 4950).
Black or green?
Same radio. The high-visibility green housing is easy to spot on a fireground or scene and is available at additional cost.
